Shirley Xu: I agree that you have your own style to your photos and that it really stands out! But I’ve always wondered- what’s your opinion on taking commissions? Do you think that being asked to take a picture of ___ takes away from your style?
Me: The truth is that since I know I’m nothing more than a lousy weekend photographer I could never take assignments. In addition, as I have no goals or ambitions for my photography, I believe commissioned portraits wouldn’t work for me.
"[...] i would like to ask you about your photography. Do you actually approach people to ask them if you can photograph them? What exactly do you say to them and are they ok with you to shoot photos? or you ask a lot and not all accept?"

"In the other side of the news, there's a dude called portlandstreetart or something, who seems to be going up to people on the street and taking their picture. That is, he has a camera probably strapped around his neck, walks up to a complete stranger, and makes a pitch like "Hello, I am a street photographer, may I take your picture?". And apparently, they say "Yes!"
I applaud his bravery. I would very very much like to go up to people on the street and ask to take their picture. But I lack the courage to do so. Also, the third feminist wave has beaten the desire out of me, I know by now that to approach a stranger on the street is the first step to me raping them."
"Yes, asking women out on a date is strictly prohibited and punishable with jail time."
"you mean @portostreetshooting? i'm guessing there's a different stranger culture in portugal that allows him to get away with it. god knows it wouldn't fly in my neck o' the woods."
"I do mean @portostreetshooting . There's another guy who gets women, takes their clothes off, ties them up naked in a hotel room but forgot to bring any color film with him."
"Psst hey friends: if you haven't seen @portostreetshooting's street portraits, don't waste another minute. This is what life outside looks like. One thing that captures my attention is that his subjects are typically smiling. I wonder how he does it"...

This has been such a wonderful series... I hope it never ends...

«Friends of Photography [10] is a monthly appearance of someone from my world of photography. People that have a photostream that I like, or that I frequently interact with or have somehow a distinct style. The title of this post was inspired on a project of a friend from photography. This 'idea' came into my mind because lately I find myself wanting to share more than just my photos. Who knows if you could be the next one represented here! I bring to you 2 photos from the photographer, my words about the author and a special text made by each month guest. I hope you enjoy this project as much as I.»
«Within two months, working entirely through the online community - a book designer in London, a Web designer in Switzerland, an engineer in Germany, and a law office in Washington, D.C., all donated services - Makarov has self-published a visually stunning coffee-table book called "Plus One Collection," with 200 full-page photos.»

«Phew.. What you see on the left are two pallets with all copies of #PlusOneCollection2012 . What you see in the middle is my garage. And what you see on the right is the freight truck that dropped off a delivery from Iceland just moments ago.
Thank you for your patience! All those who have seen advanced copies have commented that it was worth to print it this way. I can't wait to put all the pre-orders into the mail for you this weekend. It's going to be a fun one! Near San Jose, CA and want to help or pick up your copy in person? Send me an email via my profile.
Yes! Yes! and Yes!»
