Escadas do Caminho Novo / Rua de Tomás Gonzaga

Trivia (I)

Some of you asked me about my cameras. I'm currently using a Canon Powershot S95, with a DCC-1450 case and a neck strap from Gordy's. I bought the camera from

However my all time favorite camera is my beloved Yashica Electro 35 GSN with its beautiful Fujinon color 40mm f1.7 lens, original ever-ready case, ST-7 mini tripod and the original Yashica metal hood.

The camera uses a hard if not impossible to find 5.6v PX32 mercury battery. Fortunately Yashica Guy sells an adapter that fits exactly in the battery compartment and allows the use of a modern battery.

The Yashica Electro 35 GSN is a coupled-rangefinder, leaf-shuttered 35mm camera with aperture-priority automatic exposure. It retailed in 1973 for ¥29,500. You can find detailed information about this camera at Karen Nakamura's website here.

My Yashica is 30 years old and is in absolutely mint condition, still having its original hotshoe plastic cover.

The serial number is H1072316. It probably indicates the date of manufacture and other possible specifics of the assembly team and parts but the numbering seems not to have followed any type of pattern.

May post some camera porn shots later here.
